Lincoln Land Community College is currently accepting applications for Peer Tutors to provide one-on-one and small group tutoring for LLCC students seeking academic assistance in their courses.
Peer Tutors will perform the following duties:
Peer Tutors will perform the following duties:
- Provide academic assistance to students in one-on-one and small group format, helping them to learn how to (1) develop appropriate study skills and habits, (2) use supplementary materials, (3) work with their professors, (4) clarify classroom and textbook information, (5) interpret rules, definitions, use, etc. and (6) work with sample problems or examples.
- Regularly meet with the Academic Support Programs Coordinator to discuss (1) observations of tutoring sessions, (2) Use of various learning strategies and (3) potential challenges.
- Be familiar with other support services.
- Communicate with course instructors.
- Submit timesheets and other required documents according to established deadlines and maintain accurate records of student appointments
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and special events
- Adhere tutoring program, Center for Academic Success, and LLCC policies.
All LLCC Student Workers have the following institutional responsibilities:
- Uphold LLCC’s mission, as well as certain standards of conduct within the College and in dealings with students, staff, faculty and the general public.
- Responsible for compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other regulations with regard to confidentiality of and access to student and other institutional records.
Student workers will be paid $14/hr and will be scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week between the hours of Sunday through Saturday 8 AM – 9 PM.
Requirements include the following:
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress by 1) maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 with 3.0 preferred and 2) earning grades of “A” or “B” in all courses tutored
- Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) during the semester of employment, with the exception of summer term.
- Complete LLCC’s mandatory harassment prevention training within 30 days of employment.
- Complete all mandatory training requirements for CRLA Level 1 Peer Tutor Certification within 30 days of employment.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Have a high level of patience and a sincere desire to help others.
If working with minors, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
