UCLA's Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT), provides multiple services, resources, and programs to enhance and support teaching excellence, innovation, and inclusivity. These include a grant program for curricular innovation; pedagogical development of faculty and graduate students via workshops and learning communities; strengthening of TA training campus-wide; educational technology software and lecture capture; classroom technology and furnishings; and analytics and assessment for curricular and institutional improvement efforts. We also work to enhance the valuation of teaching in the academic personnel process and foster a culture of effective teaching and learning as institutional priorities. The HR Generalist will work as a member of the human resources team to provide support to the diverse team that makes up CAT. On average we employ about 350 individuals during the academic year which consists of academic staff; career, limited, and contract staff; Academic Students and Post Docs; and undergraduate, graduate and work study student employees. Additionally, we hire and support anywhere from 300 - 500 part-time employees during the summer months. CAT HR has the added responsibility of providing support to employees who are geographically spread out in several locations across campus, 8 high schools which are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and two workforce centers in West Los Angeles and the Pico Union neighborhood of Central Los Angeles.
The HR Generalist is responsible for consulting with the five units that make up CAT on HR functions such as workforce planning and employment, employee and labor relations, leaves of absences, HRIS and biweekly and monthly payroll. The Analyst will provide guidance on policy/procedure interpretation, labor contracts, and in following HR best practices to employees in all classifications, as well as supervisors, and managers in assigned units. This requires the ability to partner with leaders and colleagues at various levels across several centralized offices such as Grad Division, College of Letters and Sciences HR, Campus HR, risk management, and the Central Resources Unit and UCPath Center in Riverside, CA.
