Description

The Director, Apprenticeship Programs provides leadership to apprenticeship programs by managing program standards, rules, and regulations in compliance with appropriate funding agencies, and assisting in developing effective Apprenticeship Programs by developing and leveraging partnerships and resources while also engaging in recruitment and outreach activities geared at expanding the program. The Director will work with business and industry to develop and maintain the pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship program by determining employment needs and coordinate efforts to place students in registered pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships. 
Travel will be required, as this position will work on both the Gloucester and Cumberland Campuses.

Examples of Duties

 

  1. Develop, organize, report and monitor all aspects of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs carried out by the college. 
  2. Facilitate and maintain all advisory meetings associated with apprenticeship.
  3. Leads in the development of in-demand apprenticeship programs for industries in the Southern New Jersey region.
  4. Provides leadership to apprenticeship programs; manages program standards, rules, and regulations in compliance with appropriate funding agencies, and assists with the development of effective apprenticeship programs by developing and leveraging partnerships and resources; actively engages in recruitment and outreach activities to expand the program.
  5. In collaboration with the Success Coaches, determines participant eligibility, manages case files, and provides other services to potential and current students with the goal of encouraging interest in pre-apprenticeship, registered apprenticeship, and/or degree apprenticeship programs.
  6. Monitors student enrollment, retention, and program completion processes in the various apprenticeship programs and in other related programs.
  7. Manages initial data entry and data maintenance via multiple data systems (Rapids analyzes data and compiles time sensitive reports to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies; provides quarterly updates and reports on student participation, program completion, and employment to all stakeholders.
  8. Oversees student engagement and follow up, including the advisement and/or mentoring portion of apprenticeship program.
  9. Engages and collaborates with employers, community partners, and related employment agencies with the intention of developing and expanding the programs.
  10. Serves as the liaison to employer partners throughout the apprenticeship programs; ensures all employer agreements, training agreements and invoicing are completed.
  11. Develops and implements all employer partner work site orientations and observations, as well as all student orientations for the apprenticeship programs.
  12. Participates in networking and relevant professional development, and represents the college at various local, regional, and statewide professional meetings related to best practices in apprenticeships; assists with, and participates in, all relevant Advisory Board meetings.
  13. Leads the Apprenticeship Committee of the local Workforce Development Board.
  14. Collaborates to write grants and seek additional funding resources that support apprenticeships..
  15. Develops and implements quality control systems for the effective delivery of apprenticeship programs
  16. Develops integrated support to the career, academic, and developmental goals of CTE students, including active support and promotion of emerging student success initiatives.
  17. Provides active involvement in partnership programs between the college, select community-based organizations, faith-based, and other area social service agencies.
  18. Works with Communication & Marketing department to develop and implement marketing plans and promotional materials for apprenticeship programs.
  19. Represents the college at internal and external events and/or meetings as needed.
  20. Serves on campus-wide committees, as requested.
  21. Provides timely data and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports documenting the operations and program effectiveness of apprenticeship programs at the College. 
  22. Assists the AVP with nurturing existing partnerships and cultivating new partnerships with regional school districts, college and universities, and businesses.
  23. Travel locally, regionally and statewide to maintain business and industry partnership and to effectively manage all aspects of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs..  
  24. Serves as the College liaison with businesses, organizations, and funding agencies, including regional workforce/economic development agencies to determine training needs of the workforce and to craft apprenticeship programs 
  25. Perform other duties, as assigned. 
SUPERVISION

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education, curriculum, academic subject discipline, or related field required.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a student or career services, case management, or workforce development role, preferably in higher education
  • One year of direct recruitment and advising of program participants 
  • Directly applicable administrative, leadership, and supervisory experience in an educational institution
  • Proficiency in RAPIDS is the Registered Apprenticeship Partners Information Database System (preferred) 
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet department and College needs
  • Ability to travel between multiple campus locations, utilizing personal vehicle
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment
