2025 Internship - GNC Actuation Systems Engineer
Job Description
DescriptionDo you enjoy coursework in controls, dynamics, or mechatronics?
Are you interested in the application of controls and electromechanical design to aerospace vehicle actuation systems?
If you are pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace engineering or in a related technical field and would like to explore the field of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) and actuation, we’d love to have you join our team!
We are seeking creative problem solvers to help us perform key research, development, analysis, and testing of control actuation systems for Air and Missile Defense applications. Our multi-disciplinary team performs basic and applied research in controls and electromechanical design, concept development, detailed design and analysis, and flight testing of evolutionary and revolutionary missile interceptors. Our team is also committed to developing exceptional engineering talent and fostering an inclusive culture of innovation and collaboration.
As a member of our team, you will learn to apply electromechanical design and control theory to the design, modeling, and analysis of actuation systems and to assess and test weapon system performance. Depending on your specific areas of interest, you may have the opportunity to:
- Develop and prototype mechatronics-based hardware systems that support development, analysis, and testing of missile control actuation systems, power systems and related special test equipment.
- Perform modeling, simulation, and performance assessment of actuation and power systems of guided missiles to support conceptual design through flight testing.
- Design and build unique test capabilities to evaluate, verify, and qualify cutting-edge control actuation hardware systems.
- Engage in internally-funded research and development projects to address performance gaps in weapon systems.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Are pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or in a related technical field.
- Have coursework, research, or experience in control systems, flight dynamics, modeling and simulation of dynamic systems, hardware design, electromechanical systems and/or robotics.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and on a team
- Desire to perform hands-on work with hardware, conducting testing, and running analyses for control actuation systems
- Have experience using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, LabVIEW or C++.
- Are able to ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
