Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for managing the exemption and waiver process based on interpretation of eligibility guidelines.
• Serves as a primary contact for student and parent financial counseling regarding payment options.
• Manages payments from third parties and reconciles third party payments with student accounts. Ensure student accounts are linked to appropriate third party-provider.
• Provides direct management of the College’s third-party payment plan service.
• Responsible for all student account reconciliation utilizing all methods of contact with students to ensure accuracy related to billing and collections. Requires outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers as a primary contact for the student accounts department.
• Reconciles Cognos reporting to manage the process of holds as related to student accounts based on college policies and procedures.
• Serves as a representative for proactive collections, which includes DROP for non-payment notifications.
• Provides assistance with data accuracy review in Banner such as per term tuition and fees, coding and general data review in Banner.
• Serves as a backup to the cashier when necessary.
• Responsible for direct impact to the departments strategic goals by providing proactive collections to reduce drop for non-payment or outstanding balances, while providing recommendation for continuous improvement and processes directly related to collections.
• Demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive, difficult, and confidential situations.
• Demonstrates ability to work independently or as part of a team on special projects as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
• Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
• Attendance at all mandatory meetings.
• Predictable and reliable attendance is required in order to provide consistency and continuity of educational services.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree for a regionally accredited institution. Four (4) years of professionally comparable experience may be substituted for the required degree.
Required Experience: Minimum of one year experience in the Accounting/Receivables function.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Job-specific Skills: Knowledge of cash handling procedures and related controls over cash and currency. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multi-task. Detail oriented; high degree of accuracy. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Ability to be an effective team member and
display initiative. Proficient with MS Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar and other graphs.
Reasoning Ability: High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Excel. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Teams, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn to operate College-specific software and applications.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Criminal Background Clearance.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
Preferred Experience: Experience in Higher Education Student Accounts/Bursars Office.
