The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking one full-time postdoctoral scholar, for an in-person, full-time, 1-year position, with the possibility of extending into a 2nd year contingent on funding and scholars? progress.  The scholar we seek will have a PhD in clinical psychology and will be mentored by Dr. David M. Fresco.

Responsibilities*

The postdoctoral scholar will primarily be involved in the treatment, assessment, and analyses of our NIH-funded clinical trial, evaluating the efficacy of Emotion Regulation Therapy to resolve the emotional distress caused by vision loss.  Additional responsibilities include assisting with existing data collection efforts for clinical trial research, lab-management, manuscript preparation, grant development, and opportunities to developing their own lines of inquiry (i.e., NIH K Award, etc.).

This position also provides specialized training in Emotion Regulation Therapy, with opportunities for supervised clinical hours towards licensure, as well as various departmental and university-wide professional development opportunities.

The position entails working within a large, multi-disciplinary team lead by Drs. K. Thiran Jayasundera (Ophthalmology/Kellogg Eye Center) and Fresco comprised of psychiatry and ophthalmology faculty, grad and undergrad students, post-docs, ophthalmologists, genetic counselors, and staff, to help the fellow build skills necessary for a successful research career. In particular, the fellow will play a crucial role in supporting vision patients enrolled in program studies, which may include conducting individual therapy sessions, administering standardized assessments, and closely collaborating with the research team.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
