LIMS Analyst and Configuration Manager

Job Description

SUMMARY

The LIMS Analyst supports all aspects of the LabVantage laboratory information management system used by the laboratory services process. In conjunction with process managers and Information Services staff, defines requirements and approach to their fulfillment. Develops and deploys configuration using the LabVantage platform and related systems. Facilitates integration of laboratory instruments with the LIMS. Develops, verifies, and deploys bi-directional interchange of HL7 messages with client systems. Provides primary support in the use of system and analysis of data within the system.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following:

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive understanding of the Laboratory Services process and LabVantage and related systems (e.g., lab instruments, labeling) functionality supporting this process.
  • Coordinates with process management and Information Services staff to define system change and verification requirements
  • Develops and maintains specifications defining the functionality and configuration of LabVantage and associated systems
  • Creates or revises configuration in accordance with defined change
  • Coordinates with process management and Information Services staff in verifying all change
  • Provides ad hoc data extraction and/or analysis to support process managers
  • Supports process staff in investigating and resolving atypical situations
  • Supports process managers in definition of their standard operating procedures
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and engages management in pursuing these opportunities
  • Develops and administers the CorePoint interchange system
  • Contributes to ongoing risk assessment and risk management
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

This position generally requires a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and 4-7 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires administrative experience with LabVantage and support of the LIMS in the operational environment (preferably within a clinical laboratory). Requires experience in data interchange with laboratory instruments. Requires experience with relational database systems and SQL. Requires familiarity with software development process, including requirement gathering, development tools, release/version control, testing methodologies and deployment management.

Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability for effective working relationships. Experience working in a medical/regulated environment with formal software development and change management processes strongly preferred.

Optimal skills and experience includes:

  • IIBA Business Analyst or equivalent certification
  • Experience in a regulated environment
  • Experience with HL7 messaging
  • Applied knowledge of computer system validation

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS

High skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

High skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Very high skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
